Security Note - I will never, to the best of my ability, divulge any information that could conceivably put our soldiers and their mission at risk - and they will do the same by not telling you all they know.  So, please keep that in mind if you don't read as many details as you'd like to see.  We never know who is listening on phone lines from Iraq to the US nor do we know who might be reading these updates that I send out.
Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act - Have you ever heard of this act, from 1940?  Do you know what it covers?  More important - do you know what it does not cover?

New York Congressman Steve Israel is trying to gather information to modify and update this federal act.  Please read this page and check the links that detail this obsolete act.

If you know of any military having, or had problems after being deployed, please go to this page and let the Congressman know.

This is the link for the brownies, there is a list of 9 various recipes for "brownies in a jar".  The only problem I see is that all the recipes call for either or all eggs, oil, milk.  That's good for the states, but what about Iraq or Afganistan?

However - I have been urged not to send the "brownies in a jar" to Iraq - the heat will cause a fast growth in bacteria, also this was mentioned on www.military.com.

A warning also from Joe & Chris - There has been some information, as well as an official request from the Military, NOT to send brownies in a jar - they may not bake at suffienctly high temperatures to kill the bacteria.

The News updates are provided as a free public service to the families and friends of our deployed 4ID soldiers in Iraq by Bob Babcock, President of Americans Remembered, Inc..

They are always looking for donations and volunteers to help the non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation in our efforts to preserve memories of America's veterans and home front workers.

If you would like to volunteer or make a tax deductible donation to our efforts, please go to our web site at www.americansremembered.org or email at info@americansremembered.org or write us at PO Box 682232, Marietta, GA 30068.

This is a program that we have just been notified about and we think its great.

On a personal note - If you were in the service, or away from home, remember those people that neverr got mail from home?  This program is meant for them.  Think of how you shared with that person, (I even let him read my letters from home and my girlfriend).

The Program Mission Statement:
Our Mission is to send our soldiers without family or family support, things they want and need. We want to comfort them with a taste of home.  We want to let them know that they are important to us, that they matter.  We want to reach out and be a lifeline from America.

My name is Mary Harper and I am the founder of Operation Shoebox. We are a non profit organization that sends care packages to our troops deployed. Currently we are supporting 10 units that are deployed in Iraq and afghanistan.

We buried Nate yesterday at Arlington with full military honors.  He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with Valor.  He unfortunately, has joined a group of heroes who served with him in Operation Iraqi Freedom and other heroes from our war on terrorism worldwide.

Arlington is a beautiful place but one should not have to go there to visit a loved one.  Those souls buried there have protected our rights and freedoms and we the American people owe them a debt which can never be repaid.

Please forward this to all and tell them that we pray for the safe and speedy return of everyone's loved ones.

Sincerely

Ric Bruckenthal
